Sitting in Silence

We have read many stories of the ancient sages who achieved enlightenment by sitting in silence for long periods. A similar kind of advice is given by the neo-sages {not sages in true sense but still have some hint of that experience} in the modern times such as Bruce Lee, Brian Tracy and others.

You just have to sit with yourself for a long time with { a common time adviced is an hour to 3 or 4 hours even} no outside interference and also try not to consciously engage with any of the thoughts that are jumping crazy in your mind rather try to observe the thoughts that are coming and going.

I did it for 20 mins for two days and I came to realise that my mind is just a trash can. It did not stop. It was irritated and it produced rubbish on nitro mode.

One of the important points in this practice is that the mind would want you to react and engage with it, therefore, it will produce thoughts that are highly emotional or to whom you have responded much previously. It will remind of some deadlines, office work, pending chores, terrifying future or personal issues. It might also simply suggest you to grab that paper or your phone or the book in the front that you wanted to read and now as you are so free to sit idle, you should probably give it a go and become a book reader as you always thought of.

But you choose to sit...
