On Acknowledgeing Life Decisions as a whole Package

Recently, I have been thinking about something and I had to decide between two options and this situation reminded me of the concept I read about a few years ago.

Things and situations in life come in a package. When you decide to do something, you are basically agreeing to the whole package despite not acknowledging it consciously. Indeed, It is not possible to grasp the complete sense of everything that we do, due to our own weaknesses, yet anything that we do in this life comes as a package.

So what does package actually means? It means everything that we eventually accept to do will have some aspects that we will like and others that we won't like. Usually, when we think about something in the future, we mostly think from a biased perspective. We generally gravitate more towards our likings when taking a decision and largely ignore the aspects that are equally true but comparatively ugly about that decision.

We do not need to like the ugly aspects. We are not supposed to like them. But they will be the aspects that will be ab-normal, or un-stable. They would be full of uncertainty and that will be something, we do not prefer to face or even acknowledge.

Lets have an example to better understand the concept of package. Lets say you have decided to own a car. That means, you would have to acknowledge a couple of ugly aspects before hand; regular maintenance, fuel price spikes, potential minor or major accident, getting stuck in the traffic for hours, getting your tyre puncture when it is raining cats and dogs, finding a parking spot, or the resale issues. Now there could be other aspects that we don’t like’ but these are some that I could come up with right now. You are not supposed to like any of them, you just need to accept them as they are. You need to acknowledge that these are the aspects that are equally true. So that when they finally occur, you are not taken aback or you may not start cursing your life decisions or your situation.

If we, without any emotional attachment, try to analyse our choices, then we shall see what they have for us coming. This will be a speculative analysis and won’t be based on certainity either. However, the purpose is just to be aware of what the package potentially hold for us in its nature.

So, better decision making would be the one in which we attempt to acknowledge all the aspects, whether bad or good, about the thing we want to have or a situation we are entering.
