On Putting Sexual Desire on a Pedestal

It is sad to observe when a basic human need is put on a pedestal only because it is socially programmed to seem scarce, with so many hurdles in the way of fulfilling that basic desire.

I see, young man in my surroundings thinking and joking about marriage almost all the time. As marriage is still the only path to fulfilling one's sexual desires for a number of people. Marriage is now synonymous to having sex and sex alone. Nobody even fakes to have warmth or a long lasting relation that fulfills other psychological needs but that their only concern is to get laid. This highly basic but nonetheless strong desire to attain orgasmic bliss has been put on a pedestal for the younger generation by the society. They are waiting every day and they are made to wait some more by the society by its multitudes of requirements before this passage of rite takes place. The same society then acts surprised when it sees the younger generation unable to think creatively or do big things other than focusing and thinking about marriage and eventually meeting their sexual desire.

The issue is not just delayed marriages but also the sheer lack of direction for this ramped up sexual energy. There is a large young population, with hyped up sexual desires, thrown into the world unguided about this energy and hormonal flood rising inside them, with all these low-level activities to pull them in every direction while being shamed by the society for giving in to any of them.

It is equally sad to imagine the disappointment of young people who, having fantasized about marriage and sex for at least a decade and a half since puberty, finally get married and thus, get to realize that it is as ordinary as anything else in life. The disappointment of putting such a basic desire on a pedestal for those prime long years of one's life, only to find out that it was nothing more than ordinary, is profound. To fulfill any basic primal desire has no doubt a soothing feeling but that is highly transitory and fleeting in its nature. Therefore, to spend years thinking and fantsizing about fulfilling one's basic desire is wrong at so many level.

Human mind can only fly freely and steadily when these basic desires are satisfied, even if only in the simplest way. On the contrary, a human mind is confused, restricted and undirected when such needs are made difficult to be fulfilled.

Young minds are in a vicious trap now a days: from a very young age, they are exposed to sexualized content and then groomed further with age as exposure is just ramped up while marriage is made extremely difficult because of the variety of economic and social obstacles. There is little to no guidance for younger generation to channel this sexual energy in a positive direction but they are rather made to wait and fantasize about marriage which is being pulled away from them with each passing age.
